Frank Miller y 300, la película
y ya de paso habrá que decir algo de la reciente peli 300 basada en el comix de Frank Miller.
La vi hace unos días y me gustó. Ya se ha hablado mucho de esta peli y del comic, pero vamos... la cosa está clara, si tienes un guión cojonudo, un storyboard ya hecho, dinámico, con todas las escenas y además con fuerza gráfica y muy cinematográfico ¿para que complicarte la vida?... mas aun si lo ha hecho un maestro como Miller, ya tienes mas de media película
Zach Snyder ha entendido eso perfectamente y a lo que se ha dedicado especialmente es al trabajo de producción, que es lo que la da el toque, la parte difícil.
El comix está reproducido viñeta a viñeta, con algunas licencias que vienen bien ya que se trata de información complementaria. El ambiente y los colores se basan en la gama cobriza que utiliza Lynn Warley (compañera de Miller) en algunas partes de la novela gráfica y el resultado plástico final es parecido al de algunos video-juegos de última generación...
y eso, por partes...
Miller hizo este comix a finales de los 90, un trabajo estupendo en el que dio otra vuelta de tuerca a la novela gráfica, experimentó con otro formato, horizontal en vez de el típico vertical, con una disposición distinta de las viñetas, o sea, muy cinematográfico, tanto que es normal que finalmente haya caido la peli.
Miller se basó en los escritos de Herodoto, como no podía ser de otra manera, considerado padre de la historiografía y coetáneo de aquellos hechos, las guerras médicas del siglo V antes de C. tanto que su propia familia sufrió la represión Persa en su ciudad-colonia de Turquía. Y además se dedicó a recorrer las ciudades griegas buscando información de primera mano.
Y es cierto, Miller se ha tomado algunas licencias sobre el relato de Herodoto (que describe todo esto con pelos y señales en el libro VII), de eso ya se ha hablado mucho por ahí... pero joder, no está escribiendo una novela histórica, que ya está escrita, sino una novela gráfica basada en la batalla de las Termópilas, licencias que por otro lado no son para tanto y que no desvirtuan la obra en si ni la acción. No se puede ver esta película con ese sentido crítico-purista de historiador. Es cierto que no sólo estaban los 300 espartanos sino un total de 5mil/8mil griegos... pero a Miller le interesa centrar la atención en los lacedemonios, ahí está la acción y el hilo dramático. Leónidas no sólo sigue al pie de la letra el código espartano (tan apreciado en los USA de toda la vida... vease marines, fuerzas especiales y rollos patrioteros-belicosos varios), Leónidas tiene también en la cabeza el resultado del oráculo que le dice que solo puede haber dos opciones, o que Esparta desaparezca arrasada por los persas o que su rey fallezca en el intento de defenderla, y esto puede que no quede demasiado claro ni el en comic ni en la peli.
Pero por otro lado la intro de la película viene muy bien para explicar un poco cual eran las circunstancias y el sentimiento espartano.
Miller ha trabajado mano a mano con Zach Snyder, han reproducido lo mas exacto posible las viñetas, el encuadre, los planos y la estética...
Snyder las ha dado un buen dinamismo, las escenas tienen continuidad, ritmo, están bien enlazadas, igual que los planos y luego los arreglos y detalles digitales ayudan mucho a darle ese aire casi irreal, épico...
Claro que estamos hablando de una superproducción made in jolyvud, no del neorrealismo italiano, pero que diferencia con otras muchas producciones del estilo, bien de la Marvel o de trabajos basados en el comic. Y eso es a lo que me refiero, se ha hecho bien, te puede gustar ese tipo de cine o no, pero no deja de ser una de las mejores adaptaciones del comic al cine con personajes reales que se hayan hecho...
En solace in cinema hacen una buena comparación entre las viñetas y los fotogramas (también en su flickr, como ya hicieron con Sin City, que a diferencia de mi compañero Diego a mi me gustó, vistos los esparrames que se hacen con otros comics, Miller tiene suerte, parece que le entienden o le tratan mejor que a otros autores, si bien es cierto que 300 en principio es mas sencilla de llevar a la pantalla que Sin City ya que tiene menos decorados y la historia está mas centrada, también es cierto que Sin city es en blanco y negro y mas compleja, pero mi opinión es que salieron mas bien airosos del reto.
¿los Persas? pues ya sabemos que ahí también se ha permitido algunas licencias en la indumentaria y tal, y eso que Herodoto describe perfectamente la vestimenta de cada una de las secciones persas... pero la que mas da el cante son los "inmortales" guardía personal de Jerjes, con ese aspecto ninja que les ha dado... bueno, Miller es un amante declarado de la estética japo.
En cuanto al num de persas... es aun tema de debate entre los estudiosos, Herodoto relata el recuento de tropas unos días antes (por orden del mismísimo Jerjes) y llega a hablar de mas de dos millones, esto ha hecho dudar a muchos investigadores a lo largo de los años, ¿como se puede organizar semejante logística en esos tiempos? ¿y el aprovisionamiento de todos ellos? mas aun teniendo en cuenta que iban acompañados de otros tantos cocineros, esclavos, prostitutas y todo tipo de personajes).
bueno, eso no es importante aquí, lo importante es la tremenda diferencia de guerreros entre los griegos y los persas, y es en eso en lo que Miller se centra, da igual si eran 2 millones unos y 2mil los otros, a ese nivel ¿que mas da si eran 80.000 ou 800.000 cuando sólo había unas mil personas u 8mil personas para enfrentarse a ellos y de las cuales sólo 300 conocían el manejo de las armas?
En eso se centra Miller, no está hablando de la batalla de Maratón o de Salamina sino de la épica de Leónidas y sus 300 en el paso de las Termópilas
Miller tiene ya experiencia... y además un gran sentido cinematográfico en sus dibujos. Podemos decir que hasta la fecha es el autor de comix mas llevado a la gran pantalla si contamos su época Marvel cuando le encargaron resucitar a batman, o posteriormente su daredevil o la misma elektra... todas ellas han sido llevadas al cine, con mayor o menor acierto, o con mayor o menor rigor (no son precisamente estas un ejemplo de rigor ni serán por las obras que mas destaque), pero si Sin City y este 300... no dudo que algún director esté ya pensando en su "Hard Boiled" que daría mucho juego para hacer una de estas pelis de pura acción que tanto gustan ahora... aunque menudo presupuesto que se iba a necesitar en cacharrería, coches y fuegos artificiales, (sólo espero que el prota no sea Sosenager).
Eso si, y ya que mañana es el día de la república yo por el momento he votado a Brian the brian y no a los 300.
