he aquí el último gran descubrimiento botánico del siglo XX que ha sido hecho público recientemente, el Wollemia nobilis (pino wollemi) que no es un pino sino que ha sido catalogado dentro de la familia de las araucariaceae...(gimnospermas, algunas conocidas como coníferas)
Fue descubierto en 1994 en el parque nacional de Wollemia (nueva Gales del Sur) a 150 kms de Sydney (Australia) por David Noble, uno de los conservadores del parque, de ahí su nombre = el lugar + el descubridor.
Un buen día en una estrecha garganta se topó con un bosquecillo en el que había menos de 100 ejemplares de un árbol desconocido en un lugar que se ha matenido en secreto para evitar injerencias y cosas peores.
Y resultó que se trataba de un indivíduo prehistórico que se creía extingido desde hacía mas de 2 millones de años...
estas son sus características e historia...
En realidad el árbol es mucho mas antiguo que todo eso, se calcula que vivió sus mejores momentos entre el Jurásico y el Cretáceo, es decir en un periodo entre 200 y 65 millones de años-ha'aproximadamente aunque el fósil mas antiguo encontrado hasta la fecha data de hace 90 millones de años.
Los ejemplares adultos encontrados pueden llegar a medir hasta 40 mts de altura y soportan temperaturas extremas entre -10º y 45º, naturalmente en Nueva Gales el clima es mas templado y se prevee que en nuestra zona no suban tanto, puede que 30 mts
Es de hoja perenne, aciculada (recuerda a la araucaria o al tejo), mide entre 3 y 8 cmts de largo. Al cabo de unos años aparecen unos pequeños conos en los extremos de las ramas (masculinos y femeninos en el mismo árbol), entonces la rama se seca y surgen nuevas ramas a partir de brotes inactivos del tronco, o sea las ramas sólo brotan del tronco (no se ramifican a su vez)
el tronco es muy curioso, algunos de metro y medio de diámetro, de color marrón oscuro, rugoso, en la wikipedia lo definen como si estuviera cubierto de krispis.
Si se corta vuelve a brotar en varios troncos, como un arbusto
En el 2005, cuando se dió a conocer la noticia fue subastado un lote de unas 300 plantas (via Sotheby's) que se adjudicó por 1 millón de dólares australianos. Ya en 2006 comenzó la campaña internacional para preservar la especie y fueron ofrecidos ejemplares a los principales jardines botánicos del mundo. Desde el año pasado se encuentran comercialmente disponibles en viveros autorizados y los beneficios son empleados en la protección del parque y de la especie.

recibimos paquete, bien envalado pero el tutor habia roto el fondo del contenedor y por tanto no hacia el tope para proteger la yema terminal, en la caja no ponia nada de cuidado, ser vivo o mantener de pie en esta position,

transplantamos er bisho a un contenedor algo mayor, enderezado y tutoriado

y al final me lo he traido a casa para vigilarlo un par de anyos con su prima la araucaria y el tio ginkgo, el peque... que un dia de estos... a un contenedor mayor.
