La última fechoría de César Vidal
El ínclito César Vidal acaudilla un nuevo proyecto, la revista "Chesterton", con la que pretende alimentar el pensamiento de las distintas corrientes de la derecha española. Para desinflar la escasa piedad que todavía pueda inspirar Vidal, advertir que sí: el Chesterton al que el título de la revista pretende aludir no es otro que G.K. Chesterton. Vidal se lo apropia así como avalista de sus empresas.
La mediocridad, posiblemente, consiste en estar delante de la grandeza y no darse cuenta. (G. K. Chesterton).
Lejos de mí la tentación de simpatizar con Chesterton –ha hecho mucho daño la LOGSE a este país-; pero también de asimilarlo a Vidal, fecundo escribidor y digno ideólogo de la derecha más carcunda. Aunque indudablemente Chesterton se acerca mucho a la verdad, está lejos del nivel de iluminación de mister Chick. Pero aun así, el interesado en atisbar de qué palo iba Chesterton puede darse una vuelta con provecho por (.pdf) El hombre que fue Jueves –de las peculiaridades de la traducción nos informan aquí- y, también con provecho, asomarse a esta zapatiesta -versión en inglés; traducción al castellano, en “Archipiélago”, nº 65, ya citado-. Eso sí, sin olvidar que en las zapatiestas el que mira no puede quejarse de recibir golpes. El palo de César Vidal, no creo que sea necesario recordarlo.

PD: La anterior y más grave fechoría de César Vidal, francamente temeraria, es afirmar que El maestro y Margarita es, junto a ¡La isla del tesoro! una de las obras que más le ha absorbido, afirmación que puede mostrarse como prueba de la nula capacidad de la literatura para transformar el mundo.

La editorial “Espuela de plata” ha publicado una relativamente cuidada edición en castellano –lástima por las ilustraciones en b/n- del estudio del notable Chesterton sobre el gran William Blake. Quizás algún carcamal no se recupere del susto de leer al aparente hombre de orden Chesterton metiéndose en estos berenjenales, y eso que Chesterton parece pretender elaborar aquí una lectura edificante.
