Grace Chang en Dong y Richard Clayderman en China
Entre las joyas que WmMBerger va colocando en su serie Chinese Rocks, en WFMU's Beware of the Blog, están estas cuatro canciones extraidas de Dong (o The Hole), la película dirigida por Ming-liang Tsai en 1998. Las canciones están cantadas por Grace Chang, una estrella nacida en Shangai y que brilló en los 50 y los 60. Y es que algunos nos encantó el sabor de la sandia.
Y además nos contó una vez uno que el artista verdaderamente popular en china es Richard Clayderman, y podemos comprobar en la wikipedia que así es. no tenemos más remedio que celebrarlo con un radiolirio sobre tan extraña relación intercultural.

Al saber de esta afición de las masas chinas, no pude olvidar un lema atribuido a la revolución cultural proletaria en la china de los años 60 del siglo XX: "Es posible pasar un día entero sin beber y sin comer, pero no es posible pasar un sólo día sin leer las obras de Mao Zedong, y sin que el oido deje de oir, la visión se oscurezca y todo el espíritu pierda su orientación".

Pues bien, como pequeño burgués que soy, está claro que una vez más me he equivocado. Recordemos cual fue una de las aportaciones luminosas de Chiang Ching, la mujer de Mao Zedong:
"La ópera de Pekín tenía raíces en siglos de arte folclórico, pero era un producto del feudalismo y representaba a una clase privilegiada. Incluso en el socialismo esa forma de arte se resistía al cambio. Las óperas modelo conservaron muchos de los elementos artísticos de la ópera clásica, pero trataban temas políticos actualizados. Chiang Ching también encontró formas de darle más fuerza e impacto a la música tradicional. Agregó instrumentos occidentales, como instrumentos de viento, el timbal, EL PIANO y el harpa. Así podían expresar mejor la variedad de emociones humanas. Y los principales personajes eran las masas y los héroes y heroínas de la revolución. Era un ejemplo de integrar el rico patrimonio cultural de la China en un nuevo arte socialista. Como dijo Mao en 1963: 'Las óperas deben desarrollar lo nuevo a partir de lo antiguo; no lo antiguo de lo antiguo'".
La dialéctica histórica escribe derecho con renglones torcidos. Es evidente que el éxito de Clayderman entre el invencible proletariado chino se debe a un lento proceso de resurgir de la correcta estética maoista, y no a ningun extraño fenómeno intercultural. Y al que venga atras que le den tila.
