Nacido en 1998, PhotoEspaña es uno de los grandes festivales de fotografía del mundo. Sus exposiciones se presentan en los principales museos, salas de exposiciones y galerías de arte de Madrid, en total 52 exposiciones con la obra de más de 100 fotógrafos y artistas visuales de 20 países. Bernd y Hilla Becher, William Klein, Stan Douglas y Stephen Shore, entre los grandes nombres de esta edición.
También presentan los nuevos proyectos de Martín Parr, Bertien van Manen, Miguel Trillo y Juan Ugalde, producidos específicamente para el festival.
Este año el tema central es "LA CIUDAD". Las 26 exposiciones de la Sección Oficial se caracterizan por el uso de lenguajes documentales y la proximidad del trabajo artístico a la experiencia común. Ciudad habla de la experiencia urbana actual por medio de un viaje al interior de nuestra existencia cotidiana en la ciudad única.
